CBT is a form of psychotherapy that aims to help people overcome their emotional problems. More, CBT is based on the concept that how we think, how we act, how we feel and what we experience in our bodies all interact together.
- Cognitive refers to mental processes (thinking). The word “cognitive” refers to everything that goes on in your mind; memories; images; thoughts. How you think about yourself, the world and other people
- Behaviour refers to everything you do. How what you do affects your thoughts and feelings. This includes how you act, and avoidance. Behaviour refers to both action and inaction.
CBT aims to help people develop flexible and more accurate beliefs and is underpinned by the idea that emotional distress is maintained by unhelpful way of thinking and behaving.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative, practical and problem oriented approach to emotional problems whereby the client and therapist work together toward understanding difficulties in terms of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, body responses and behaviour.
