Feeling nervous about your first therapy session? That’s completely normal — almost everyone does! I have also been on the other side of that as a client; so I can relate to this. To make it a little easier, I like to share photos of my therapy space beforehand and share what you can expect us to chat about so you (or your adolescent) feel more comfortable walking in. This can also be helpful if you’re bringing an adolescent as you can show them beforehand.
During your first session, we’ll:
- Get to know each other and talk about what brought you here
- Explore your goals and what changes you’d like to see
- Introduce how CBT works and how it can support you
- Cover practical details like confidentiality, session structure, and any questions you may have
The first session isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and ready to start your journey.
