If you’d like to connect before committing to a session, I offer a free 15-minute Zoom consultation—a chance to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and see if it’s the right fit for you. This consultation is designed to discuss your needs, outline the therapeutic approach, and determine suitability before commencing formal sessions. I look forward to supporting you in your mental health journey.
The first visit
Generally, the therapy sessions last approximately 45-50 minutes, once a week, at the beginning. This time is typically adjusted for adolescents; depending on their age and their ability to engage with me. Usually, therapy sessions are between 35-45 minutes for an adolescent.
During the first meeting, I will go through the therapeutic contract and ask you to agree to the terms and sign a form. I will keep one signed copy of the contract and I will provide a signed copy for the client to keep. Then, I will ask the client questions about themselves, their background, their expectations of counselling and what you hope to achieve from the experience.
Confidentiality
Providing a safe and supportive space whereby you can talk free of judgment and explore your thoughts, feelings and behavioural habits is of great importance to me. To me, the notion of confidentiality and the understanding the limitations of confidentiality is imperative in providing effective therapy to a high standard of professionalism and ethics. In the first session, I will provide further information regarding the rare occasion whereby confidentiality may need to be broken with or without your consent. Throughout the therapy process, if you are unclear on these limitations or require further..
How many sessions and how often will I need to attend?
The number of sessions and frequency of sessions will vary according to the specific needs of each individual I encounter. During our first appointment, this is something we can discuss with your goal of therapy in mind.
How do I know if psychotherapy and counselling is right for me?
Feel free to contact me and we can discuss this together. We can discuss what might be challenging you currently, what you want to do about it and if this is something that can be achieved through therapy.
Will my insurance cover the cost of sessions?
I am a private practitioner and I am not affiliated with any insurance company. Therefore, you will have to contact your insurance company and provide them with my name, Jimmy Williams, and my APCP accredited membership number, MBR11362, to query if your sessions with me are covered. If your insurance company does not cover sessions with me then I can recommend alternative options if you want me to.
Are you neurodivergent informed?
I am neurodivergent-informed and have extensive experience supporting teens and children, including three years working in schools with kids on the autism spectrum. As part of my training in adolescent therapy, I have developed an understanding of the unique ways neurodivergent individuals experience the world, including the social, emotional, and sensory challenges that can impact daily life. This knowledge informs how I structure therapy to be practical, inclusive, and tailored to each person’s needs.
I also focus on supporting self-advocacy, helping young people understand and communicate their needs confidently, whether in school, social settings, or at home. By combining practical strategies with emotional support, I work with adolescents to build resilience, manage anxiety, and navigate life in a way that feels achievable and empowering.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. I work online with people using Zoom and research shows that efficacy rates for online therapy are favourable.
Do you offer reduced cost therapy?
I do. However, availability is limited. Reduced cost therapy is available for individuals in full-time education, in part-time work and people who are unemployed. These sessions are typically online and start at €40.00. Please get in touch to make an enquiry regarding reduced cost therapy.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your appointment with more than 48 hours’ notice, there will be no charge. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged. Frequent cancellations and/or late arrivals will be addressed.
What’s the difference between a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist and a Psychotherapist and Counsellor?
Psychotherapist and Counsellor
The words Counsellor and Psychotherapist are mostly used interchangeably. A Psychotherapist and Counsellor is a professional who has been trained to use therapeutic methods to help a client with their particular area of concern. In general, counselling is focused on immediate life stresses and how to deal with them. While psychotherapy is focused on in depth mental health challenges that may stem from childhood and might take a longer number of sessions to address. They will not diagnose or pathologise.
Psychologist
A Psychologist has similar but different training to the Psychotherapist. This gives them the knowledge to recognise and flag possible neurological, learning, emotional or developmental issues which may need further exploration through a psychological assessment. They will diagnose and assess issues.
Psychiatrist
A Psychiatrist is a medical Doctor whose specialist area of practice is mental health. They concentrate on the biological and chemical side of a mental health concern and usually work in tandem with the client’s GP. The psychiatrist may prescribe medication if necessary, they may also call upon the expertise of a Psychotherapist or a psychologist if counselling is needed.
